Company History
Mammoth originated in 1935 as the Brown Sheet Iron and Steel Company in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. At that time, the company manufactured industrial gravity-flow and forced-air furnaces for both commercial and residential applications. From this modest beginning, we experienced an explosive expansion during World War II, when Brown became a major supplier of large industrial furnaces.
Seeing the increasing market potential in the commercial and industrial sector, a small group of investors bought the company in 1953. They chose to focus on the commercial and industrial lines. As the largest supplier of the largest product on the market, the company was renamed the Mammoth Furnace Company.
In 1965, the growing company became the Mammoth Division of Lear Siegler, Inc. It acquired a heat-pump manufacturing company in Holland, Michigan, and a coil manufacturing plant in New Germany, Minnesota. The St. Louis Park facility was expanded to keep pace with growing manufacturing requirements.
After 29 years in the western suburbs of Minneapolis, in 1995 Mammoth headed south to its new facility in Chaska, Minnesota. While its name and location have changed, the constant has been the way Mammoth does business. With five major product lines, Mammoth continues to be a leader in quality, custom-built HVAC equipment.
Today, Mammoth, Inc. is a CES Group™ Company. Mammoth has manufacturing locations in North America and China. Mammoth invests in the future by making investments in new manufacturing processes. This helps Mammoth ensure that it remains a leader in the highly competitive custom HVAC marketplace.
The new equipment includes a Trumpf Flexible Manufacturing Cell (FMC) system. This system has nine separate pieces of equipment including a punch press, automated loading units, laser processing, and three hydraulic press brakes. The equipment is used to cut and form complex parts from large sheets of steel, aluminum, and plastic. The Trumpf FMC is an innovative production system that is tied together by a control system that manages all the functions of the cell.
High-quality, efficient products have been Mammoth’s hallmark since 1935 and can be found throughout the world. Mammoth will continue to expand its production for the global market in coming years. Our goal is to offer exactly the right equipment to meet the HVAC needs of our customers around the world.
